A conversation about New York... -
“That’s the funny thing about NYC…” I said to my new foreign friend. “There’s the person you were before you came here and then there’s the person you become. And the person you become is more than you could ever imagine or ever forget.”

Exit Through the Gift Shop -
THE TEN PROJECT is hosting a movie and mixer at Big Screen Plaza on Monday, August 29th with a FREE screening of the Banksy film, Exit Through the Gift Shop. Check in is at 7pm, mixer following the show at 9pm. See the flyer HERE. RSVP today to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I LOVED this film because I LOVE street art! It’s not exactly about Banksy, though he gives quite amusing interviews, it’s about “Mr. Brainwash" (who could be a myriad of people) is a videographer turned street art enthusiast. But the movie itself is full of the most amazing street art pieces (which is modern art to me), inspiring exhibitions and interviews with Shepard Fairey and many other well known and underground street artists. It’s such an interesting documentary with vibrant imagery and an anarchist state of mind.
Big Screen Plaza is located at 6th Ave btw 29th and 30th St.
There are TONS of movies being shown for the rest of the summer: Pump Up the Volume, Teen Wolf, Blues Brothers, Pee Wee’s Big Adventure, Edward Scissor Hands, Gremlins, The Empire Strikes Back and Rocky Horror Picture Show! I’m sorry to say, but summer only lasts for so long here in NYC, so don’t miss out! See a full list of movies and venues HERE.

Summer Streets! -
This is cool for runners and cyclists! For the next 3 Saturdays (August 6, 13 & 20), Summer Streets is taking over Manhattan! A 7 mile stretch along Fourth/Park Ave. will be shut down to motorists from 7am-1pm.
Saturday, August 6, there will be lots of cool activites: sand castle sculptures and sand boxes to play in, a rock climbing wall, free exercise and dance classes, street theatre performances from the Fringe Festival, a cook-off @ Whole Foods and Chipotle is gonna show you howto make some guacamole! I’m sure they will let you eat it for afterwards. Biking makes me hungry! And thirsty! Don’t forget your water bottle :]
The bike route will go from Chambers St and Centre St, up Lafayette, Fourth Avenue and Park Avenue to East 72nd Street. See the route HERE. You can also rent bikes or roller blades. Get more info HERE. View the Summer Streets Schedule.
